Description

A L M A The name comes from the Latin almus, meaning nourishing, and from the Spanish and Portuguese word alma: soul. It represents essence, warmth, and the invisible thread that connects people, places, and memories.
We created ALMA as our everyday coffee, comforting, sweet, and welcoming, but still layered with the complexity and beauty that define everything we do. It’s the coffee that lives closest to our hearts, inspired by the cups we grew up drinking in South America: surrounded by mountains, coffee trees, loving people, and the certainty that there was always a warm mug waiting.
Even though one of us speaks Spanish and the other Portuguese, alma means the same for both of us. And that’s exactly what this coffee is meant to be, a shared language, a piece of home, and something made de corpo e alma (body and soul).

Grown in the mountainous landscapes of Brazil’s renowned Minas Gerais region, this coffee is a vibrant expression of terroir, tradition, and thoughtful innovation. Produced at around 1,000 meters above sea level in the Chapada area of Southern Minas, the combination of volcanic soils, steady sun exposure, and a favorable microclimate creates ideal conditions for cultivating expressive and balanced coffees.

This lot is composed of Mundo Novo and Arara varieties, cultivars prized for their structure, sweetness, and adaptability to Brazil’s diverse landscapes. Naturally processed and sun-dried on patios, the cherries are carefully monitored throughout drying, allowing sugars from the fruit to slowly infuse into the beans. This method enhances body and sweetness while preserving delicate aromatics, resulting in a cup that is layered, smooth, and complex.

Behind this coffee are producers deeply committed to quality and sustainability. Farms such as Serra dos Alpes, led by Raquel since 2018, demonstrate how curiosity and dedication can transform potential into excellence. Through selective harvesting, improved drying infrastructure, and continuous learning, the farm has steadily refined its quality while maintaining strong environmental stewardship, including preserved natural reserves and shared water resources with the local community.

Producers in the region, including those near Ilicínea, are known for balancing innovation with respect for tradition. Many have embraced advanced post-harvest techniques, improved drying systems, and sustainable farming practices that prioritize both cup quality and ecological responsibility.

Southern Minas Gerais has long been considered one of the cradles of Brazilian specialty coffee. Its diverse terrain, ranging from rolling plains to rugged mountains, produces a remarkable spectrum of sensory profiles. This coffee reflects that legacy, comforting yet vibrant, classic yet expressive, a testament to the region’s history and its forward-thinking producers.
